30A- Final Reflection

1) Reading through all my previous posts from this semester really made me think that you can accomplish so much for a start-up business in such a short amount of time. By doing a little bit for my concept each week, I've seen it grow week by week and with the structure of the course making us go and talk to people and reading material that will not only help us get ideas for our business but the mindset and attitudes we need to have helped me develop a better and more concise idea that I could have on my own. My highs were when I got to read interesting material on business and my favorite was my book on psychology because it really interests me how the consumer mind works and how people make their decisions and my lows would be my elevator pitches because the idea of presenting to investors that could possibly just hate my idea and think I'm stupid is nerve wrecking.

2) My most formative experience would be networking and connecting with people that could make my idea happen such as investors and other business owners that I could actually do business with. By calling and talking about my possible business, these people gave me more noticeable respect and I can tell by their tone and their feedback that they believe in me to actually turn something into a business idea which is such a rewarding feeling. This sort of support was my most joyous experience from this class and my proudest accomplishment is that I was able to give one of my elevator speeches to a business owner back home during break and they actually gave good feedback.

3) Before this class, I thought I had the mindset of an entrepreneur because I could come up with ideas for a business but not I realize that before I just didn't know what I was talking about and that I truly have a better grasp of what an entrepreneur thinks like now. I learned that it's truly about your mindset and your ability to go out and connect with people more than just having a good idea.

4) My recommendation for students coming into this class is to do the assignments as real as possible if that makes sense. I recommend taking each phone call, each meeting like it were a real business meeting because even if you don't really believe in your idea or product, the amount you learn from other business owners and friends will help you with any idea you could possible have and the life experiences they share may help you with future problems of your own. I would also recommend the book on psychology to get a better entrepreneurial mindset.

  1. Hi Nathan,

I really liked your advice for the the coming classes. I think that the assignments in this class prepare you really well for the challenges of an entrepreneurial lifestyle. I think that it is really important to complete all of the assignments as thoroughly as possible. I also thought that what you said about the reading assignment was true. The books assigned really give you insight into the world of entrepreneurship.
