9A - Testing the Hypothesis Part 2


After conducting 5 more interviews, this time on different types of people, I have come to a couple conclusions as to who would be a strong market to target and who would fall outside of this boundary. I found that most college kids that interviewed in part 1 were all for saving the planet and would go the extra mile to help preserve our environment but in my second set of interviews, I talked to mainly older people like parents and grandparents rather than kids my age and I found that the older the person is, the less invested they are into saving the environment. 

Who: I think the strongest market to target would be the people who would most benefit from saving the environment which is the younger generation which could range from the 40s and below. I believe that the older generation falls outside of this boundary because they will most likely not live and suffer through the age where our environment is in such a condition that it needs to be repaired. 

What: I think my business would help with a need that would affect everyone's future because the environment provides a habitat and and food for animals that we humans eat and if that progressively gets worse, then there will be a point where the animals we are eating are not healthy or even non-existent.

Why: The underlying cause of the outsiders' need is different from the insiders because they will simply not live through the age where our environment needs help so they will not suffer from the negative affects so they simply do not care because it does not apply to them.

Inside the boundary: I believe the younger generation who are around 40 and younger are inside this boundary and to even further tighten the boundary, for my product people living along the coast or enjoy their time out on the water will most definitely be inside the boundary. The need is for something that will help clean and protect our environment so that our Earth is sustained. The need exists due to the constant beating of our environment through fossil fuels and littering.

Outside the boundary: People who are too old to suffer from their consequences of ruining this Earth are not in the boundary because they won't be affected so many of them will not care enough to put the effort or extra income in for certain products that help the environment.

    Hi Nathan,

    I think that you did a good job of identifying who your product would work for and who it wouldn't work for. It is really hard to get people to care about something that they believe won't affect them. I think that you make a good point about what the need it and how it affects those in need. We are not taking care of our environment and it could affect our food sources in the future

    Hi Nathan,

    I really enjoyed your post and reading about the interviews you have done in order to develop boundaries for this idea. This process really helps us see what direction we would need to go in and how successful our ideas can be. I think you did a great job at identifying your boundary and those that lie either within it or outside of it. I hope that more people become more concerned with the environment as time goes on because it really is important. Great work.

30A- Final Reflection 1) Reading through all my previous posts from this semester really made me think that you can accomplish so much for a start-up business in such a short amount of time. By doing a little bit for my concept each week, I've seen it grow week by week and with the structure of the course making us go and talk to people and reading material that will not only help us get ideas for our business but the mindset and attitudes we need to have helped me develop a better and more concise idea that I could have on my own. 28-A Exit Strategy 1) My exit strategy really does come down to if my business is successful or not and how successful it really is. If my business is raking in a lot of money and growing, I think I would keep it and continue to grow it to become a bigger business but if my company is doing okay and I feel as if I cannot make a big difference in the remaining life of my business, I would try and sell it to someone who can grow the business. If I did decide to keep my business, I would keep it to provide for my family until one of my children is old enough to own it, that is, if they wanted to inherit the business.
