21-A Reading Reflection No. 2
1) After reading "Mindset" by Carol Dweck this past week, I can easily say that the main argument and point of the book was to stress the importance of the correct mindset, hence the title, when conducting business and starting your own company. Carol believes that psychology can lead to success and only with the right mindset, in combination with an idea and work ethic, but mindset is not something that can be lacking. Dweck makes it a reoccurring point that in order to be successful in business, you must allow your mind to grow and become more psychologically intelligent to progress.
2) The book enhanced what I'm learning in ENT3003 by showing me there is more to business than just having a good idea and a good work ethic, it's also about where you are mentally and your mentality when problems come along, because they will, and this affects how you deal with them and progress.
3) Honestly, as silly as it sounds, I would design an exercise where motivational speeches are given and we watch motivational videos to get in the right mindset that if we have an idea and are willing to put in the work, it will succeed. This whole idea of mindset being crucial to success will be pushed if the right motivation.
4) My biggest surprise when reading this book was when Dweck gave a model of a fixed and a growth mindset which I feel like I have been doing the actions similar to the fixed mindset a lot of my life. I guess my "a-ha" moment was when I realized I need to be taking on more challenges and not being afraid to fail instead of just doing what I am good at so I can progress.
Hi Nathan,
ReplyDeleteI feel like the book that I read, How To Lose At Everything and Still Win Big, had a lot of the same concepts as Mindset. It had a lot to do with having an attitude of success and adjusting the way that you deal with problems and road blocks as they arise. I would say one of the biggest differences in the books ,from what you wrote, is that the author of the book I read pushes readers to do what they are good at rather than what they are passionate about
